Krystal Thomas is an accomplished concert pianist from Detroit, Michigan. As a soloist, she has performed at Carnegie Hall in their Spring Instrumental Music Festival, Max Fisher Orchestra Hall (Detroit), the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Steinway Piano Gallery of Detroit, and many other venues.  She has also recorded various solo piano pieces for The FJH Music Company.  She has received numerous awards, including first recipient of the Friends of Chopin, Inc. scholarship, a James Tatum Foundation for the Arts scholarship, and the Elyane Kuhles Memorial Music Scholarship. 
 
Krystal is acknowledged for her outstanding performances as a collaborator and chamber musician.  She is currently the pianist for the renowned Brazeal Dennard Chorale.  She has been a guest artist in Duo Esplanade's concert tour and has also performed with The Four Pianos at the Frauenthal Theater.  Krystal has served as the pianist of the Perigon Trio, alongside violinist Kyle Venlet and clarinetist Jennifer Fischer.  As a harpsichordist and fortepianist, Krystal has performed in the Grand Rapids Bach Festival, the Grand Rapids Handel Celebration, and Muskegon’s Arts at Noon Series. With the GVSU Early Music Ensemble, she has appeared in concert with members of Ars Antigua, viola da gambist Emily Walhout, and others.
 
Krystal received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Grand Valley State University.  During her tenure there, she won an Arthur C. Hills Music Scholarship, the most prestigious performance award offered at the university.  She was also recognized at the GVSU Concerto Competition for her performance of Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
 
Krystal received a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from Central Michigan University, under the tutelage of Dr. Alexandra Mascolo-David.  She has also studied extensively with Van Cliburn medalist Aviram Reichert, as well as critically acclaimed pedagogue Dr. Helen Marlais.  In master classes, Krystal has performed for several notable pianists, including Roberto Prosseda, Dr. Mark Markham, and Benjamin Frith. 
 
Krystal also holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, with a minor in psychology.
